View the surroundings of the House of Astronomy on Google Maps (e.g. for directions)
Please note that there are only a few parking spaces available for visitors on the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) campus. If you are arriving in a group with private cars, please refer to the large parking lot at the Bergbahn / Märchenparadies (about 10–15 minutes walk away).
If you are attending a public event at the Haus der Astronomie (HdA) after 16:00, the institute's internal parking lot can be used. Please note that the use of the parking lot is only permitted within the time frame of the event visit.
A parking lot is available for coaches in front of the MPIA entrance gate, and there are further coach parking spaces a few minutes' walk away (navigation to Märchenparadies / Königstuhl).
How to get there by public transportBergbahn in the direction of Königstuhl. Stop Königstuhl (mountain station), from there approx. 10-15 minutes on foot.
Bus 30 (and 30e) from S-Bahn station Altstadt in the direction of Königstuhl / Kohlhof. Stop MPI Astronomie, directly in front of the entrance to the Haus der Astronomie ("Science-Bus").
Please note:
- This bus route is only partially suitable for groups as it is only served by minibuses!
- The MPI Astronomy stop is not served on Saturdays, the Observatory stop is served.
- This bus route is not served on Sundays.
Bus 39 from Heidelberg Bismarkplatz in the direction of Königstuhl. Get off at Sternwarte, from there it is a 5-10 minute walk.
Note: There is also a line 39a. This does NOT go to us on the Königstuhl!
Please note in general that the buses that go to the Königstuhl only have a limited capacity and are also heavily frequented by employees of the facilities located on the Königstuhl during rush hour. Larger groups are requested to register with RNV as early as possible so that they can plan accordingly.
