Clube de Astronomia Louis Cruls

The Clube de Astronomia Louis Cruls (CALC), headed by Marcelo Souza, coordinates a myriad of amateur astronomy activities and education projects at schools and universities in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil and further afield. Its work includes, for instance, overseeing the participation of Brazilian schools in asteroid search campaigns run by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration, taking part in international competitions and organizing excursions for Brazilian school pupils and teachers to astronomical institutions worldwide.

Beyond this work, CALC organizes the annual Encontro Internacional de Astronomia e Astronáutica, an astronomy and aerospace conference held over several days with international speakers and several hundred participants from all over Brazil, primarily school pupils.

HdA and CALC aim to put German and Brazilian schools, i.e. pupils and their teachers, in contact with one another and launch joint projects. This also includes exchange programmes with visits to both countries and, where needed, support from science education experts.
