Presentation of the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope

Public event on 12 July 2022, at 8:00 p.m. in the HdA auditorium (Fully booked! Live stream available.)

June 21, 2022

The Haus der Astronomie (HdA) and the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) invite you to the presentation of the first images and scientifically exploitable data from the James Webb Space Telescope on 13 July 2022, at 7:00 p.m. NASA, ESA (European Space Agency) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) will publish these data in the afternoon of the same day. Short talks by MPIA researchers in German will explain the new images and spectra and place them in the context of the various fields of research.

The event is fully booked!

We have set up a livestream for all those who were unable to reserve tickets. The link is in the right column of this page.

The entire astronomically interested world is eagerly awaiting the first images and scientific data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). To demonstrate the capabilities of the JWST, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), ESA (European Space Agency), and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) have selected a few prominent objects to observe with the JWST's instruments. However, what these are and the data itself will not be announced before 12 July 2022.

The Haus der Astronomie (HdA) and the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) invite the public to the presentation of these new images on 12 July 2022 at 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the HdA. Researchers from the MPIA will explain the images and place them in the respective scientific topics with a series of short lectures. Admission begins at 7:15 p.m.

Our colleague Markus Nielbock will guide through the evening. At the beginning, we will introduce the JWST once again and explain how the MPIA is involved in this new space telescope, both scientifically and technologically.

Admission is free. However, as the number of available seats is limited, a binding reservation is required. Free tickets are available via ZTIX.
