HdA for everybody

As a rule, guided tours of the two astronomical institutes on the Königstuhl are possible in English as well as in German.

At the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (LSW), the minimum group size is 12 persons. Landessternwarte Königstuhl (LSW) offers tours for groups by prior arrangement, and public tours (in German) every Thursday at 2:30 pm, by appointment.

Apart from guided tours, our outreach activities for a general audience are, with a few exceptions, in German. We co-organize (with the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy) a regular series of public talks called Astronomie am Sonntag Vormittag (literally "Astronomy on Sunday AM"), contribute to activities such as Open Days, and curate a mailing list that informs subscribers about astronomy outreach events in the Heidelberg region. in addition, the Haus der Astronomy plays host to the editorial team of Germany's most successful popular astronomy magazine, "Sterne und Weltraum" (literally "Stars and Space").

A number of our activities are directly geared towards localizing (read: translating into German) international outreach resources. As the German node of the European Southern Observatory's Science Outreach Network (ESON), we support Europe's foremost astronomical organizations in reaching the German-speaking public. With our German version of Galaxy Zoo: Hubble (link) we extend the reach of Zooniverse Citizen Science projects to those not sufficiently fluent in English.
